Restore access to your wallet whenever you need it

Lost your Ledger device and don’t have your Secret Recovery Phrase with you?

Broke your Ledger device and don’t have your Secret Recovery Phrase with you?

Spelled your Secret Recovery Phrase wrong?

Your Recovery Sheet got destroyed?

Your Secret Recovery Phrase isn’t legible?

With Ledger Recover, never worry about getting locked out of your wallet.

You become the key to your wallet

How this works:

STEP 1: Identity verification
Verify your identity using a valid ID document and a selfie recording.

STEP 2: Creating the backup
Connect your Ledger device and approve the creation of the backup for your Secret Recovery Phrase. Once approved, your Ledger device will encrypt the entropy of your Secret Recovery Phrase—a string of random 1s and 0s from which your Secret Recovery Phrase is computed. The encrypted entropy is fragmented into three pieces within the Secure Element chip. These fragments become the backup for your Secret Recovery Phrase. Ledger Recover only interacts with the fragments of the encrypted entropy, and never with your Secret Recovery Phrase in its readable format.

STEP 3: Securing the backup
The fragments are securely distributed using end-to-end encrypted and authenticated channels to the Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) of three independent companies – Ledger, Coincover, and EscrowTech. Each fragment on its own is a useless set of random numbers.

STEP 4: Linking the backup to your verified identity
Each fragment is linked to your verified identity from Step 1, so only you can request to retrieve the backup.

How to set up:

STEP 1: Create your Ledger Recover login using your email and a password.

STEP 2: Add your payment details.

STEP 3: Get your identity verified. Onfido, the ID verification provider, will guide you.

STEP 4: Connect your Ledger device. It will generate and secure the backup for your Secret Recovery Phrase.

Remember, Ledger Recover is an optional and opt-in service. You are required to go through the process described above to activate and subscribe to Ledger Recover.

How to recover:

STEP 1: Log in to Ledger Recover.

STEP 2: Connect your Ledger device and confirm your details.

STEP 3: Verify your identity twice. Onfido and Electronic IDentification (eID), the ID verification providers, will guide you through the verification process.

STEP 4: The encrypted backup for your Secret Recovery Phrase is restored on your Ledger device.

Self-custody secured by your identity

Accessing your wallet is seamless: just you, your ID, and your current Ledger device, or a new one.

No compromise to your self-custody

You alone can initiate the recovery process, which is ensured using double ID verification.

Ledger Recover is an ID-based key recovery service that provides a backup for your Secret Recovery Phrase. If you lose or don't have access to your Secret Recovery Phrase, the service allows you to securely restore your private keys using a Ledger device.
You’re responsible for storing your Secret Recovery Phrase. While this setup makes you enjoy all the benefits of self-custody and complete control over your assets, it also makes you solely responsible for their protection. Ledger Recover is designed for users who want to add an enhanced layer of security in case their Secret Recovery Phrase is lost or when they can't access it.
In short, only you can access your wallet. When you subscribe to Ledger Recover, a pre-BIP39 version of your private key is encrypted, duplicated and divided into three fragments, with each fragment secured by a separate company—Coincover, Ledger and EscrowTech. Each of these encrypted fragments is useless on its own. When you want to get access to your wallet, 2 of the 3 parties will send fragments back to your Ledger device, reassembling them to build your private key.
To restore your keys, you need two out of three fragments that are securely kept by the three independent and trusted companies. If one of the companies holding a fragment shuts down, you will still be able to restore your keys until another trusted company replaces it.
Ledger Recover can restore your private keys to your device, but it can't provide you with your Secret Recovery Phrase. If you have any other physical/digital copies of your recovery sheet or Secret Recovery Phrase, it's your responsibility to secure them. Keep in mind that anyone who obtains your Secret Recovery Phrase can access your wallet.
Coincover provides the gold standard in digital asset security, addressing the most significant barrier to mainstream adoption: trust. If wallet access is lost, Coincover offers encrypted and military-grade storage for retrieving the key.
